Houston Hot Pot

Hi, Is there anybody who knows where to get authentic Chinese Hot Pot (Huo Guo) in Houston? Haven't had that ever since I came to US for 7 years. Thanks a lot!

I would recommend Sichuan cuisine or Tan Tan Chinese restaurant. They have very good hot pot and very authentic. I've seen QQ Chinese restaurant inside Dun Huang Plaza serving hot pot as well but never had it before. Also, check out this page: Houston Hot Pot Restaurants

Hunan Plus Chinese Restaurant in Houston

I love this place! Their lunch special is only 3.25 + tax and you get a huge entree with a choice of fried or white rice, 7 to 8 different kinds of food from kung pao chicken to beef pepper steak, an egg roll, and a cup of soup. The best thing is that the portions are so huge that you would need a to go box and perfect for tomorrow take to work lunch. What a bargain!!

713 Restaurant is one of the Houston sleekest and trendiest venues. Contemporary decor and large bar invite guests to settle in for both dining and extended social banter. Menu items range from economical five-course bento boxes to sushi to innovative entrees such as duck roulade with butternut mashed potatoes and pan fried veal chop schnitzel. Late Night Sushi in Houston

I haven't checked it out yet, but it appears that Zake Japanese Cuisine where Butera's on Alabama used to be years ago, then "Royal Japan", where I thought they did a nicebuild-out, is now packing them in on weekends, startingon Thursday nights.
A friend who works at Bookstop tells me that the parking lotfills up. And I took my little dog down there (Bookstopallow dogs since Petsmart opened next door) and we went by "Zake". Lots of glamorous and well-dressedyoung people and some live music or DJ. Now if only there were a similar place for us geezersafter the opera or whatever.

Can one get late night sushi at the new Highland Village place?I think Jack Tyler remarked about that place here recently.

Late night sushi has been around forever in NYC, Boston,Chicago, LA, and SF. It's the perfect late night snack, and in this town, it's hard to get late night food in aglamorous social setting. Check out Houston Asian Restaurants Guide . They have a very good Houston dining guide.

Houston Chinese Restaurants

Here is a list of Chinese restaurants in Houston. Restaurant Sitemap in Houston Asian community.

Also a review of Yellow River Chinese Restaurant.
This place is the Chinese version of Luby's.. Sort of. The interior is not as pretty as Luby's and not as big, but the layout of the food and concept is similar. They have about 20+ different foods you can choose from for example, green beans, mapo tofu, etc.. You get a side of white rice or chow mein and 3-4 different foods. The food is pretty decent and the price is very cheap. It was less than $4 for an entire meal (including bubble tea drink).

Red Pepper Chinese Restaurant Review in Houston

I stayed near the Galleria area and tried a place that was in the shopping center where I dropped off my dry cleaning. As a complete aside, the one Chinese place at which I eat locally is in a shopping center with a dry cleaners, as is one of my favorites in New York. There must be something to that connection. Anyway, the place that I tried was called The Red Pepper. It is on Westheimer about a mile past the Galleria. I stopped in for lunch, after using one of my tried and true techniques for identifying good Asian restaurants -- count the Asians eating there during a busy lunch rush. Here, they were plentiful, so I gave it a shot.

It seemed like many of the patrons were regulars and knew most of the staff by name and some even ordered what looked like stuff that was not on the menu. The special on the day I visited was chicken breast, jumbo shrimp, and vegetables in a thin, brown, low fat spicy sauce. The meal came with a cup of soup (I ordered the wonton), an egg roll, and steamed rice. The cost was a little high for lunch at $10.95, but it would have definitely provided for two meals for average eaters (or eaters that are not staying in a hotel room with no fridge!).

The soup was very bland. The chicken broth was almost flavorless, and the bowl included one wonton that did not have much texture. There were a good number of vegetable chunks in the broth, but no shreds of pork, as I usually find in New York-style Chinese wonton soup.

They also had no crunchy noodles to submerge in the soup, which I thought was a minus. The entree, however, made up for the soup tenfold. This meal was flat out delicious. The chicken was moist and the shrimp were tender and tasty. The sauce had just the right amount of kick, without being overbearing. Broccoli and snow peas were the primary vegetables in the dish, and they definitely added to both the presentation and the taste.

The egg roll was more like what I call a spring roll back home. It was OK -- but, I am still seeking out the one memorable egg roll that has to be found somewhere outside of the New York area. The person who appeared to be the owner worked the register and seemed legitimately interested in everyone's dining experience. All in all, I would consider this a positive meal and I might go back there again in the future, but with the plethora of Chinese restaurants in the area, I might also be inclined to try something else, too.

Chinese Restaurant in Houston Review

Zake Japanese Cuisine

2946 S. Shepherd Dr.

Houston, TX 77098

Zake is a very stylish and contemporary restaurant that provides a lot of great fusion cooking. Inside, they have a restaurant section and a lounge section. This is a very cool place to get traditional sushi at the sushi bar while enjoying modern music and the surrounding setting. Zake has DJ spinning dance music every Friday and Saturday night so after you have your meals with your friend or your date, you can just enjoy your weekend night hanging out there. Zake is also a good place to meet a lot of young professionals, so if ever you want to try some place new, meet some new people or impress your date, this is the right place to go. Houston Chinese Restaurant Guide

Six Ping Chinese Restaurant in Houston opened not too long about in Houston Chinatown. I went in not knowing too much about the place since they have no website or reviews out on the internet. Apparently, they are known for their xiao long bao which I ordered and their noodle dishes like beef noodle soup. Their xiao long bao is pretty good. Like other Chinese restaurants in Houston that also make them, it is one of my favorite dishes. I plan to try their beef noodle soup next time.

Houston Chinese Restaurant Guide

I went to eat at this place after reading the reviews on this website. I have to agree that this place is a hidden jewel in Houston Chinatown. They have very good food and price is reasonable. Their location is not the best, like I have said, because it is in the corner of Diho Square shopping center. Go here, Noodle House Chinese Restaurant and they have good direction on finding this place.

I will definitely come here again.

Chinese Restaurant in Houston: Tapioca House

Tapioca House in Houston Review. (Visit there website, www.chinatownconnection.com/tapioca_house.htm )

Nice laid-back atmosphere, great for chillin' with friends. Great tea. My favorite snack is their spicy dry bean curd. You can get it in mild, medium, or very spicy. The chewy texture is just right. The fried chicken snack is a friend's favorite - the basil gives it a great flavor.

Noodle House Chinese Restaurant in Houston

Noodle House Chinese Restaurant Review
After living in Taiwan for a couple of years I didn't fully appreciate just how much I loved the local cuisine. Waves of nostalgia wafted from the kitchen as I pursued over the menu of my favorite, mouth-watering dishes. It was like coming home after a long unexpected trip and fulfilled to the extent of my hopes and desires. The food was excellent, the atmosphere genuine, and the staff friendly, as I had come to expect from the Taiwanese. Eat at this restaurant, you'll be glad you did.

Ocean Palace Dim Sum

Ocean Palace for dim sum on Sundays is like a whole different world. Make sure you get there by 11:00'ish or else there will be a wait. I've been on 3 different occasions and the food was always very good, with a good variety. The service sometimes seems rushed (well they are trying to get the waiting people seated) but overall, it's well worth your trip.

Xiong's Cafe

Today, I decided to give Xiong's Cafe a visit today. This Chinese restaurant is located in Houston Chinatown . Xiong's Cafe is well known for its noodle, especially beef noodle soup. I had the wonton noodle soup because I wanted to try something new this time. When I first walked in, I noticed there were not a lot of seats. Big problem especially during lunch time. If you every want to know about a Chinese Restaurant in Houston, visit Houston Chinese Restaurants Guide for more details. I had to wait 5 minutes for a seat. The wonton noodle soup I ordered was kind of blend but interesting enough, tasted good. Their noodles are unique and one of a kind. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

Grand Cafe Chinese Restaurant, Houston, Texas

Grand Cafe Chinese Restaurant located at 9102 Bellaire Blvd Houston, TX 77036 , might not seem much on the outside, but once you walk into this restaurant, this small, cozy restaurant will grab your attention. The colored lights hanging down the ceiling is a very nice touch along with the wall accented lights. The chairs are elegant, however, the tables don't match quite as well. The owner changed the name of the restaurant to Grand Cafe Chinese Restaurant because he wants it to be fancy. Fancy in taste and fancy in hospitality. You will get a taste of traditional Chinese dishes here.

Houston Chinese Restaurants Review

Beijing Noodle Cafe
9888 Bellaire Blvd.
Houston, TX 77036

This newly opened restaurant in the heart of Chinatown has brought along with it mouth-watering Chinese dishes. I tried their veal dumplings and it has to be the best I have tasted. The freshly rolled flour surround the meat was perfect, not too thin and not to thick. The succulent taste of the veal meat was incredible. Together with the soy sauce, the (15) dumplings made it down in less than 10 minutes. Their beef noodle soup is perfect as well. Most places will put in tons of soy sauce in the soup creating too much saltiness and ruins taste. However, Beijing Noodle Cafe adds in the right amount and creates one of the best beef noodle soup in town. The restaurant carries over 50 dishes including family meals for 4, 6, or 8 people. Price is inexpensive as most dishes are under $5 for lunch and under $10 for dinner. Exceptional value and incredible food, Beijing Noodle Cafe is our newest addition to our Best of Chintatown Editor's Pick.
